Exorcising Angels In this tribute to Arthur Machen, Clark and Lebbon have taken the idea that a story by Machen about ancient bowmen appearing during a battle in World War I actually happened. Machen receives a visitor that says he was there when it happened and tries to convince Machen of the facts during the Blitz of London during World War II. It is a very interesting and well done tale. There are also stories by each of the authors in a Machen inspired vein. These are stories where the everyday is suddenly transformed into something unusual. For some, like David in "Skins" by Lebbon, wondering what really lies just below the surface, just under the skin. Clark’s "A Bridge to Everywhere" makes us wonder if some of our hallucinations are just that, or are we looking at the world at a different angle. | |
