There are several illusions in this story by Lenora Rose that reads like it could be part of a longer work in progress. One of the illusions is Kandim Distani who is part selkie and is able to change her body and sex and is an empath. Kandim does not know who her father is and has spent most of her life as a boy.

After failing a mission, she is rescued by Biadei Hantri and taken to the home of Damano Lorenzo, called Daemon, to recover. There she learns of the history of the Jolian family. She learns of THE ILLUSION OF STEEL in the sword called Desecrator, which holds the souls of its previous owners.

There are minions of evil on the loose as Kandim is able to determine her father’s identity, take up Desecrator to save her friends, and to fulfill a destiny she didn’t know anything about.

Rose has written an interesting story with an unusual cast of characters that would be able to sustain a longer work. Pick this one up and check out the other offerings from Jintsu.
