This novel takes us back to the days of the beginnings of Bureau 13 and the strange events that took place to President Lincoln of the Union, President Davis of the Confederacy and the extremely strange happenings that were being decimated by some unknown creature.

After an attack by a suspected werewolf on a White House meeting, President Lincoln appoints U.S. Marshall Joshua Withers to find out what is happening there and in the battlefields where minor wounds are turning deadly. Soldiers on both sides are being found in a withered state with looks of agony on their faces.

Guns, fire, silver, and Holy Water appear to have no effect on the different type of monster causing all the carnage. If it's not a werewolf, vampire, or demon, what can it turn out to be?

Nick Pollotta has written an exciting, thought provoking prequel to his BUREAU 13 stories. He and Marshall Joshua Withers make a good pair and DAMNED NATION is a book that shows the beginning of Pollotta's bestselling series. By the way, it has a terrific cover as well.
