The Hardy Boys:
Around fifty years ago I read my first Hardy Boys novel. They, along with Tom Swift, Don Sturdy, and others, were some of my earliest action reading. It was interesting to read about teenage boys seeking clues to solve crimes and help their detective father to solve cases. Sometimes, it was just Frank and Joe along with their friends who solved the crimes. There are now at least sixty-six adventures and these are some of the newest reprints that feature supernatural elements that may appeal to today's readers. WEREWOLF features a wolf-like creature, Indians and industrial espionage. APEMAN is a comic book character whose real life counterpart is causing havoc and a young girl has disappeared and the boys must find out the answers to both cases. In THE MUMMY CASE, the boy's travel to Egypt to find some stolen statuettes, safeguard a mummy and face politics and crooks. It's good to see these stories available to a new generation of readers. I hope they find the readership that they deserve. I'm passing these along to my grandson in hopes that he will develop an interest as well. | |
